It has turned creation upside down, thrown artists and labels into doubt<\/strong>, and been the subject of a thousand debates, analyses, and projections.While some streaming platforms, such as Spotify<\/a>, have shown no willingness to combat this potential threat to artistic creation, others, like Deezer, have immediately announced their intention to mitigate its impact<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Deezer is going one step further. In a recent press release posted on their blog<\/a>, they announced that 0.5% of streams generated on the platform are the result of AI-generated content<\/strong>. This may not seem like much, but when you consider that millions of songs are streamed every week, the figures are significant. What’s even more worrying is that 70% of the streams generated from this 0.5% of total listens are fraudulent.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

But how do they do it, and what are the consequences? These ill-intentioned individuals use bots to create fake streams of songs they’ve generated themselves<\/strong>, thereby reaping the royalties associated with these AI-generated songs. If you spread these royalties over the hundreds of thousands or even millions of streams represented by AI-generated songs, the recipe is a source of colossal revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Deezer<\/a>‘s COE, Alexis Lanternier, the platform has observed a significant surge in the uploading of AI-generated songs. This trend is expected to persist. The time to act is now, and it’s urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was, therefore, necessary to combat this massive fraud<\/strong>. With a well-oiled solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deezer’s new tool identifies AI songs: what is it?<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Words are good, but actions are better. For the first time in the history of music streaming, a small icon is displayed on songs or albums generated 100% by Artificial Intelligence<\/strong>. You can see an example below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its press release, Deezer announced that more than 200,000 songs, or approximately 18% of daily uploads, would be generated 100% by AI<\/strong>. A tag will be present on each of these 200,000 songs, allowing each user to identify them. So that they can, if necessary, avoid listening to them\u2014a good way to differentiate between a track created by a human being and one created by AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The penalty is simple: if a stream is detected as fraudulent, royalties will be excluded.<\/strong> Deezer<\/a> goes even further: songs generated 100% by AI are now excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations<\/strong>. This is a way to limit their distribution and sharing while also generating fewer royalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
